Good material was hilarious! I’m going to add a few of these to my list

I don’t know if I would classify Sally Rooney books as classically “fun” but they are all totally engrossing

I’m excited to read a few of these! Good, easy novels are surprisingly hard to find!!

The one that got me back into reading is “On Earth as it is on Television” by Emily Jane. I picked it up at a local bookstore off the fun cover and the review blurb on the back saying “Like a science-fiction novel runs in the margins of I Can Has Cheeseburger? memes”.

It’s a first contact alien novel with some fun and unexpected plot twists, witty humor, and my favorite part - it has literally no cultural sub-context that makes you have to grapple with anything going on in the real world today. It’s just a well-written, unique story that flies by and actually gives the reader an escape hatch from the everyday.

It’s also her first novel. She has a few others but I haven’t read them yet.

Bright Lights Big City is one of my favorites! The prose are so witty and it's such an interesting look into that era of writers.

ok I feel like we could be friends from this list so I feel obligated to suggest a few:

- Happy Hour by Marlowe Granados: you seem to appreciate flawed characters making stupid decisions in NYC so this something you should like. Very fun but also makes you feel good like it's not pretentious at all.

- Mad, Bad and Dangerous to know by Chloé Esposito(ok trilogy but I swear that they 100% all fall in the fun category) think of a girl who is basically batshit crazy but you somehow root for her. I'd recommend reading those on a holiday in the sun. You'll understand if you read them.

Glad to see Black Box of Doom made the list. I loved that book - the audio version is really good.

Read ghosts by Dolly Alderton and I loved it. Would recommend Red Royal white and blue, as that's such a fun book that you can enjoy. The rest of my book recommendations aren't exactly fun to read so I'm sorry about that 🤣.

oooo excited to add a couple of these to the list, esp Fleishman is in Trouble.

my humble addition: The Night Guest by Hildur Knútsdóttir. a thriller perfect for the Iceland-Obsessed Millennials out there.

a fun and *very* quick read. finished in a day. will make you feel accomplished and potentially creeped out

Tender Is the Flesh (not fun, savage quick read, classist cannibalism)
